3 MAY 2009: TEAM BUILDING OF STANDARD CHARTERED BANK
48 peoples from the standard chartered bank came to the Lamma petanque playground for a relaxing day far from the stress of their desks.
We started with a BBQ to get some more energy before getting more serious.
At the beggining of the afternoon, the big group was split into two groups of 24 peoples : the first group stayed playing petanque while the group 2 went for a hike along the trails of Lamma Island accompanied by two professional guides. After they got back from their hike group 2 switched its activity with the first group who would go on a slightly different walk on the island.
For most of the people it was the first time they played petanque thus the adventure was complete for this dazzling day enjoying petanque and hiking.

22 Feb 2009: Training
When the boules were tossed by the HKPC members and the families in a friendly atmosphere. For the first time, twenty children aged between nine and fifteen joined the game. The petanque is a game that can be enjoyed by all ages, parents and children alike.
It is a small world of leisure, a Sunday spent on our beautiful and tranquil island. Where everyday worries are forgotten. Present HKPC members had the opportunity to play against the petanque champions of tomorrow, and the young generation showed us that they were up to the challenge.

14 Dec 2008: competition in Lamma
Last Sunday, the 14th December, the boule has rolled around the boulodrome for the fourth tournament organized by HKPC.
Forming teams of 3 players, around 30 passionates petanque enthousiasts turned up at the event.
The champions of this tournament ended up being Jerome Favre, Olivier Gazeau and Sallie Shaw. Jerome and Sallie, members of HKPC, deserve this victory, which was in fact due to all the hard training that they had adhered to before the competition. This had given them a win in the final and they have each received a winning trophy and a bottle of champagne. This event went very well with lots of fun and cheering.
After the competition, everyone ended up at the
Banyan Bay Cafe
for a nice banquet of cold cuts and cheese, offered by the Hong Kong Petanque club to all its members.
It was a really complete and wonderful day...

9 Nov 2008: Open Patrice Drevet
Sunday the 9th of November 2008 the Hong Kong Petanque Club’s boulodrome was embraced under a fever of rolling, pointing and shooting boules.
Thirty people, making up ten teams, met under a blue sky in the shade of the trees of Lamma Island, for the first edition of the “Open Patrice Drevet”.
Pratice Drevet, is a big supporter and television representative, ex Mister-Meteorology, who was always making rain and beautiful weather on the tube.
The Parenthese Hong Kong bookshop welcomed Mr. Drevet for the signing of his book “la planète se réchauffe” and also gave homage to petanque and Alphonse Allais (poet and comedian from Normandy) at Honfleur; an ancient taste that put back this great writer in our present minds.
But as far as we are concerned, Patrice is still the president of the Petanque Club Neuilly-Sur-Seine and he had decided, this Sunday, under the acclamation of the players to merge our two clubs.
This petanque tournament wouldn’t have been possible without all the friendly competitors; but especially not, without Samuel Weil who was the main organizer of the competition.
We are now waiting impatiently for the second edition of the Open Patrice Drevet.
Thanks to all the petanque players, to Samuel and to Patrice.

26 Oct 2008: HKPC 1st in Guangzhou
On Sunday the 26th of October, the Hong Kong Petanque club had the honor of bringing back the 1st prize from the Guangzhou (Canton) petanque tournament, organized by “L’école Française de Canton”
Our team was represented by Benoit Bouju, Eric Masson and Thomas Ruyet. A fourth player was also there, Cyril Cousteur, but he ended up playing in one of the mixed Hong Kong/Canton teams.
From memory, we faced 43 teams, which were practically all French speaking, from Swiss, Belgium, Quebec (team "Free Quebec) & France.
Most of the players were from Canton and beginners and fanatics alike found themselves together in an electrifying atmosphere.
Small French flags decorated the scene, parasols were erected to provide some shade, baguettes sandwiches were prepared to restore the appetite and last but not least, pastis and red wine to eradicate the thirst between games.
The boulodrome was in fact small dry grassed football field, which made it a bit difficult to play petanque. But the obstacle was the same for all participants and soon enough, the spirit of the game was there.
A very entertaining event with a great organization and cheering teams supporters. It was a direct elimination process tournament whence loosing one game would mean the end of the tournament for any given team.
So here it was; a happy event and a beautiful result for the Hong Kong Petanque Club achieving success with 1st place and a happy return to Hong Kong and our club.
